FAIRFAX, VA — In the most recent fundraising disclosure, the Shannon for Attorney General campaign listed a big donation of $25,000 from the Big Labor group, the American Federation of State County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME) in Washington, DC.
This money is merely the latest donation from a Big Labor group. In 2009, Big Labor has provided over $160,000 to the Shannon campaign. This amount swells to over $187,000 over the length of Shannon's entire career. In addition, the partisan Democrat associations that have provided over $1,000,000 to Shannon are also heavily financed by Big Labor.
"Virginian's need to ask what Big Labor is buying with their support for Steve Shannon," said Chris LaCivita, consultant for the Cuccinelli for Attorney General campaign. He continued, "Perhaps they are buying his support of 'card check' legislation, which would get rid of secret ballot elections for union organization, thereby harming workers, and would undermine Virginia's right to work law, thereby harming the economy. The passage of card check legislation would inevitably lead to higher taxes and a loss of jobs for our citizens."
Steve Shannon has maintained a perfect 100% pro-Big Labor voting record while serving in the House of Delegates. Among the pro-Big Labor votes he cast included voting twice against a Virginia Constitutional amendment to protect Virginian right to work law.
